Ellie

Ellie On BedEllie is named after the artist Eleanor Day <eleanorday.com>. She came to us in an unusual way. We were adopting her cagemate, Jenny. When Betsy went to pick Jenny up, the staff person pleaded with her to also take Ellie, saying that Ellie had been there for several weeks and did not show well. Ellie appeared to be a few weeks older than Jenny. Betsy agreed and after transferring Jenny to the cat carrier, she reached in to get Ellie. Ellie freaked. And Betsy’s arms showed the results. Ellie still will not tolerate being picked up. Sometimes I can pet her when she’s tired or just in the mood to be petted. The first trip to the vet, shortly after being adopted, was also difficult, at least for me. Ellie was not about to enter the carrier of her own free will. My arms bore the evidence of that confrontation. Do we regret bringing Ellie home. Not at all. She’s a beautiful girl who has mellowed somewhat. And I anticipate she’ll become even more relaxed as time goes by. And boy does she smile with those amazing green eyes when you talk to her. She also adores Jenny and our cat Max.

Amazing green eyes indeed! I hope Ellie eventually realizes that getting petted or sitting in a human parent’s lap, can be better than cat nip! (Our kitty, Pepper, became a lap cat when he was about 7 or 8 years old. He’s now 10 and doesn’t miss a chance to get in his dad’s lap.)

Ellie is so beautiful. I’m sure you’d agree that too many people give up on (or won’t even give a second glance at) the frightened, less-than-sociable ones. But they need love too! So glad you gave Ellie a home!

I like the way Ellie looks like she has dark hair parted in the middle, as if she’s doing her hair everyday.

That face is almost human! Two of ours have become lap-cats even later in life (mid-teens and onward), though none were even un-socialized. I lived with cats for more than ten years before one even deigned to take up a place on my lap. Time will tell! In the meantime she is just a stunner.
